JULIET
adapted from Shakespeare by Dan Cohen
An original deconstruction of Romeo and Juliet. Focusing solely on Juliet’s perspective, I cut and rearranged the text to create a memory play that begins just before her death and flashes through time as her memories collide.
Working with a five-actor ensemble, we used Viewpoints, movement, and structured improvisation to explore the text through experimental staging. The piece featured overlapping dialogue, fluid character shifts, metaphoric imagery (such as water representing blood, poison, or nourishment), and non-linear, symbolic storytelling.
Juliet remained onstage throughout, navigating a fractured inner world where other characters emerged through shared roles and voices. The result was a visceral portrait of Juliet’s isolation and relationships, offering a haunting glimpse into her psyche and the chaotic world around her.
